Assignment: Design and build a poster webpage for the conference.

Think design, information, charts, infographics! Think visual, discovery, international, students, workshops!

  • Sketch out at least three concept sketches
  • Choose one or two fonts max!
  • Use all of the words and the two logos -- Ohio Univ. and the conference logo (eye)
  • The colors, layout and other imagery is totally up to you, but it must fit the conference theme and your concept.
  • Update your website before each class, and add a link for each stage of progress (v1, v2, v3, final)!

Before you start: A few sketches and a blank canvas

  1. This will be a quick turnaround project, so focus on a few concepts first, and that will make the build time go faster.
  2. Start with a few quick sketches of your concepts on paper. I want to see them.
  3. Will you use a chart? Some icons?
  4. Create your project folder with a css folder, an images folder, and a blank html file.
  5. Begin coding with a blank canvas!
  6. Build a section that is responsive and has two or three of the main design elements -- the key concept parts.
  7. Is your poster responsive? Test it in your browser!
  8. Test it, fix it and repeat...

Practice, Repetition...

  • Practice and repetition are the best ways to learn coding and web design!
  • I want to see your progress each step of the way!
  • We'll be working on this project for only two classes.
  • Force yourself to start over with a blank canvas and save each version!

Grading

I will be looking for:

  • Good coding -- you started with a blank canvas, your page is responsive, proper indenting of HTML code, use of annotations and spacing, use of Bootstrap's "container > row > cols" for your layout, and organized project folders.
  • Good content -- a clear concept, a brief narrative featuring your use of the words and logos and any other imagery that fits the your concept.
  • Good design -- customization, use of color, fonts and typography and strong images. No photos, but SVG icons, illustrations or charts are OK.
